Food DRive for St. Vincent de Paul - January 22 - 26
Daily Bread Soup Kitchen Knapsack Project
November 13 - December 6
Note from Daily Bread:
For the last eleven years, we have handed out generously filled backpacks to the men and women who are our guests at lunch. The men and women we see daily are rarely remembered at Christmas. For many, these backpacks were their only presents. There were always lots of smiles on Backpack Day at the soup kitchen. The last few years we've given red knapsacks to women, green to men, and polka-dotted and striped knapsacks to children. The giveaway was a festive holiday surprise for our guests.. We plan to fill knapsacks with essential items including toiletries, hats, gloves, and scarves. We will hand out the knapsacks from the front door just as we hand out hot meals every day. We are once again asking for your help to fill the knapsacks. Donations of toiletries such as deodorant, hand lotion for hands chapped by the cold, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, soap, deodorant, lotion, razors, shaving cream, razors, Chapstick, handwarmers, Kleenex, etc. are needed. We want to add cold weather items, such as gloves, hats, socks, and scarves. We would like to also include a small treat such as candy, snack items, etc. Decks of cards, puzzle books, journals, coloring books, crayons, stuffed animals, and nail polish are also appreciated. Since the backpacks are Christmas gifts, all items should be new. |
Christmas Giving Tree - Through December 4
Catholic Charities Giving Tree Project
Holy Cross Parish will once again be collecting toys and gift items for those in need in the Peoria Diocese in order to make their Christmas a little brighter. A “Giving Tree” will be set up in the vestibule of the church with ornaments that have age range and type of gift requested printed on it. Please take one or more of these ornaments from the Catholic Charities Giving Tree located at the back of the church and purchase the gift(s). Drop the items off at the back of the church or in the parish office by Monday, December 4 so the gifts can be given to Catholic Charities. They will pass them along to the families in the Champaign County area. If you have any questions, please call the Parish Office. |
